Ian is an associate of SpokenWord Ltd and is a founding partner and lead creative training consultant
of Xperient LLP, a training company specialising in experiential learning
(www.xperient.co.uk). He is also an associate of Abundant
Sun and Interaction Learning & Development.
Ian specialises in giving clients and their employees the confidence to explore the impact of an individual’s personal
behaviours through a range of tailored sessions or workshops designed to create effective changes that ultimately have a
positive impact on the business and it’s stakeholders. Previous sessions and workshops have focussed heavily around
developing negotiation and relationship selling skills, increasing self awareness, delivering difficult messages,
understanding personal power, exploring cultural diversity, presentation skills and influencing others. He has worked
extensively in the training sector for the past 14 years, mostly helping individuals to develop their interpersonal
skills through participation in business simulations and role-plays, experiential workshops and individual behavioural
coaching. Ian and his business partner, Nicola, at Xperient are experts in the field of questioning and are always
looking for ways to assist others in understanding the power and effectiveness of excellent questions. Ian has worked
with many different organisations across the public and private sectors including Hiscox Insurance, Royal Bank of
Scotland, Severn Trent Water, the General Dental Council, HSBC, National Health Service, Nexen Oil, Cardiff University,
Barclays Wealth, the Environment Agency, Cool2Care, Marsh Brokers and several leading international law firms including
Herbert Smith and Mayer Brown.
Ian initially worked for the Ministry of Defence where he trained as a computer programmer and then moved to a Marine
insurance company in the City of London where he progressed to become a systems analyst. In 1990 he took a different
direction and trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, after which he started his career as a professional actor
and singer. During this time within the performing arts sector, Ian started to use his dramatic skills to enhance a
number of training events both as a facilitator and role-player and soon began his third career. In 2007 he co-founded
Xperient and he has used both his business knowledge and his creative abilities to supply clients with some fun and
innovative training solutions. More recently, he has started to offer his training services across Europe and the USA to
serve the needs of existing clients.
